,  Marie Šechtlová | Jaroslav Zvěřina was born in Třebíč on December 18, 1942. He attended elementary school in the same town and than passed a school-leaving examination at local grammar school (these days called "Eleven year’s high school"). From 1959 to 1965, he studied at Medical Faculty of Charles University in Hradec Králové, and graduated in Prague.

  • 1965 – 1969 employed as an intern and psychiatrist in Mental Hospital in Havlíčkův Brod.
  • 1969 - 1977 worked in Tábor as an ambulatory psychiatrist.
  • Since 1977 employed in Institute of Sexology of the 1st Medical School of Charles University and VFN Prague 2.
  • Since 1989 chief of this Institute of Sexology.

Attestation in psychiatry (1st level in 1969, 2nd level in 1973) and sexology (in 1982). Science candidate since 1988, habilitation in 1989. Chairman of Sexology Society associated to the Czech Medical Society, in 1990 he co-founded Czech Company for Parenthood Planning and Sex Education. He was repeatedly elected its president until 2003. Member of Scientific Council (till 2003) and of Commission for Prevention of HIV/AIDS of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. Member of prestigious International Academy of Sex Research (IASR) and Deutsche Gesellschaft f. Sexualwissenschaft (DGSW). From 1994 - 1999, he was member of committee of World Association of Sexology (WAS) and of European Federation for Sexology (EFS). Member of editorial board of journals Arch. Ital Urol. Androl. and Sexologies. Honorary member of Polish, Slovak and other foreign Companies of Sexology. Member of board of directors of Foundation Česká hlava (support of Czech science). From 1996 - 2004 elected vice chairman of board of directors of o.p.s. Podaná ruka (prevention of children’s´ injuries).

He lectured on conferences and congress meetings in the Czech Republic and abroad. He published more than 120 specialized and clinical notifications both abroad and in the Czech Republic. Co-author of several specialized monographs. He published perceptual texts called "Sexology" (in 1991 and in 1994), a book "100 questions about sexuality" (in 1990), "Medical sexology" (in 1992), "200 advices about sexuality" (in 1992), "About politics and sexuality" (in 1996) and "Sexology (not only) for doctors" (in 2003).
